UT President Dr. Joe DiPietro
University of Tennessee Board of Trustees unanimously approved a more than $15,000 pay raise for President Joe DiPietro this year.
This 3.5 percent raise, will take Dr. DiPietro just over a $445,000 annual base salary.
DiPietro declined to accept a merit increase greater than 3.5 percent. The trustees board based his salary upon an evaluation process that occurred in April and May.
UT Board of Trustees Vice Chair Don C. Stransberry, Jr. said he was not surprised by the board's unanimous approval.
"He's done a good job. He's managing a huge budget," said Stransberry. "We have to pay a wage that attracts the quality of people that you trust to administer a billion dollar budget."
Tennessee Governor and Board of Trustees Chair Bill Haslam attend this meeting, which also discussed UT's Top 25 Initiative.
Chancellor Jimmy Cheek said UT has made significant progress over the past two years in its goal to become a top 25 research university.
