A quiet retirement community is shaken by a murder investigation in their neighborhood.
The body of Kimberly Batty, 58, was found in her Fairfield Glade home by a friend Wednesday night.
Batty worked at the Fairfield Glade community center. Sheriff Butch Burgess said she was from Kansas and had moved recently. She did not have family in the area, but did have children.
Neighbors describe the community, filled with golf courses, a lake, and community center, as tight nit.
"It's just a great place, we thought, to live," said resident Barbara Storer.
She was one of many neighbors who drove by the crime scene, Friday, looking for answers.
"Nothing like this has ever happened as long as Fairfield Glade has existed," she said. "It's very alarming. It's kind of hard to sleep."
While she was hoping to find answers, the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office said they are not able to provide many details.
"We have several leads but there's not a specific suspect," said Sheriff Burgess.
Sheriff Burgess said Batty suffered injuries to the head, but they will have to wait for the autopsy and crime lab results to release more.
The sheriff says his detectives have been working around the clock.
"They started Wednesday at 7 a.m. and didn't go home until Thursday night," he said.
