You will soon hear the familiar bell ringing outside local stores.

The Salvation Army kicked off its annual Red Kettle Campaign in Knoxville on Monday, though the bell ringers won't actually start until Thursday.

UT basketball coach Cuonzo Martin kicked off the campaign and made the ceremonial first donation to the Red Kettles.

Knoxville Area Commander, Major Albert Villafuerte emphasizes the importance of this campaign and also the team effort needed to make it a success. "During tough times like these, more and more people are coming to us for help and it will take a community-wide effort to make this campaign a success", said Villafuerte. "This campaign will determine our capacity to serve, not only at Christmas time, but in the months to come."

The organization will kick off the campaign in Blount County on Wednesday, November 14, with a ceremony outside the Center for Calling and Ministry on the campus of Maryville College.

Volunteers are still needed to ring bells throughout the area. For more information, contact The Salvation Army at 525-9401.
