Holiday season is about to go into full gear, and Operation Christmas Child is trying to spread holiday cheer across the globe.
Samaritan's Purse organizes Operation Christmas Child every year, which has become a tradition across East Tennessee. They distribute boxes filled with items, everything from toiletry to toys, to kids living in impoverished areas across the globe. Boxes can cost as low as $15.
One organizer says the small gesture goes a long way.
"It's as though they realize, somebody loves me. Somebody cares about me, because they were willing to go out of their way to give me something as simple as a tooth brush. Or something as simple as a slinky," said Lori Davidson.
Collections will run until Monday. There are 15 distribution centers around our area, including the Knoxville Expo Center off Clinton Highway.
There you can drop off, buy or fill a shoe box between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. You can also fill one at home or online.
You can find more information on the Operation Christmas Child website.
