FBI agents spent the day digging up the backyard of a Greeneville home, searching for evidence in a year-long civil rights investigation.

Agents used metal detectors at the home on Rainbow Circle. They wouldn't say what they were looking for, but WCYB has learned it's connection to a home invasion case from 2006. That's when four masked armed men broke into a home on Jim Fox Road and beat two people up.

Sheriff's deputies chased them to the home here on Rainbow Circle, where one was shot by a deputy.

"Part of the investigation does include allegations that a 15-year-old was shot. So as part of that allegation we are investigating," said FBI Senior Agent Kevin Keithley.

The case involves a civil rights suit claiming misconduct by the deputy who fired the shot.

At the time of the shooting, Sheriff Steve Burns said he thought the deputy acted properly.
