A special luncheon honored some generous members of our community on Friday, Including our own Bill Williams.
The Great Smoky Mountain chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals celebrated National Philanthropy Day with an awards luncheon.
The group honored Bill Williams as Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser for his involvement in a number of community causes, including the Mission of Hope, Buddy's Race Against Cancer, and the Friends of the Smokies telethon.
"I accepted that reward on behalf of the many people who'd responded to our message, but that's it. I'm so fortunate, we're so fortunate. One, to work at a television station that allows you to reach out to those kinds of causes. And two, because of the audience, because of the people who do respond, who care enough about other folks to say, 'I want to help, I want to do something,'" said Bill.
Other award winners included Covenant Health, Variety, The Children's Charity, and Robert and Julia Schriver.
