Some East Tennessee elementary students celebrated statewide recognition for their school on Friday.
John Sevier Elementary School was named the number one elementary school in the state by SCORE, the State Collaborative On Reforming Education. The Maryville City Schools district also won for best district.
Students celebrated with some music and dancing, and a balloon release.
School administrators say they are proud of the recognition.
"I've always been proud to be a part of Maryville City Schools," said Principal Rick Wilson. "And then for a school to win an award like this, to be recognized, it's something that's been a highlight of my career."
School administrators credit community and parent involvement, teacher dedication, and hard-working students for the school's success.
