UT students are giving back to the community in a unique way.
On Monday, six business majors, along with a marketing professor presented a $5,500 check to the Samaritan Place. It provides shelter and support for low income seniors.
The student-run group organized the Barefoot Benefit 5K last month to raise the money.
Runners took off across a Maryville golf course barefoot.
A UT professor says putting together the race was a great learning experience.
"They take a lot of their personal skills, plus what they learn in class, and put them into practice. It's learning by doing," said Bernie Cadotte.
After presenting the check, the students visited with residents from Samaritan Place and sang some karaoke.
