As the violence continues in the Middle East, the Knoxville area Women in Black continued their push for an end to the violence at their weekly peace rally.

Each Tuesday the group of women gathers outside the Duncan Federal Building to call for peace between Israel and Palestine. They started more than 10 years ago.

The group is made up of both Israelis and Palestinians, and people of a variety of faiths. They wear black as a symbol of mourning and stand in orderly silence to say the violence needs to stop.

The group says it's important for Americans to pay attention to what's going on in Gaza.

"It's of primary importance that we be educated. We can't be a true democracy without knowing what is actually going on and what is the truth. And this issue in particular, I think is a really central one ot the safety and well-being of the whole world," said Barbara Hickey.

Women in Black is an international movement that was started by a group of Israeli women in 1988 to protest illegal Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories.
