East Tennesseans should enjoy a new historical park next year. The Aslan Foundation announced Monday preservation plans for 100 acres of land around Fort Higley.
The space offers great views of the Downtown Knoxville skyline and the Smokies with a touch of Civil War history. The 1863 Battle of Knoxville took place on those grounds. Visitors can still see remnants from the fort there.
"The city has a rich history and a beautiful ridge point with fantastic views of the city. People should see it, enjoy it, appreciate it, and be proud of it," said Bob Young with the Aslan Foundation.
High Ground Park will have exercise trails, picnic space, and historical landmarks. It is set to open November 2013.
