Animals rescued from burning woods; owner charged with animal fighting

Crews in Hawkins County battling a forest fire has to stop battling the blaze for a bit to help rescue about 40 dogs and chickens from the burning woods.

According to Hawkins County deputies, the animals on that property had injuries and scars consistent with animal fighting.

Charvez Nelson Francisco of Knoxville was arrested and charged with cruelty to animals on Monday, as well as cock and animal fighting.

The animals were taken to shelters in Hawkins, Washington, Jefferson and Hamblen counties.
