Update: 2nd, smaller earthquake hits East TN

UPDATE:

Just hours after an earthquake struck approximately 4 miles from Sevierville, a second earthquake hit at 9:56 a.m. Saturday.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, it was a 2.5 magnitude earthquake.

Officers and residents said they felt the tremor, but noted it was not as strong as the first earthquake, which was a 3.0 magnitude.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Some residents in East Tennessee woke up to some shaking Saturday morning.

The U.S. Geological Survey says a magnitude 3.0 earthquake struck about 4 miles north east of Sevierville just after 6 a.m.

10News also received reports from people in Sevier County and Jefferson County who said they felt the ground shake.

No serious damages have been reported.

This earthquake comes just two weeks ago to the day that a 4.3 magnitude quake hit near Whitesburg, KY at 12:08 pm eastern time on November 10.

Whitesburg is about 144 miles northeast of Knoxville, in south eastern Kentucky.
