The driver of the van that authorities say caused a fiery crash on I-40 in early November has died.

The crash happened Friday, November 9th, on I-40 near the Strawberry Plains exit.

KPD says 64-year old Oliver Butler of Rockwood lost control of his van, crossed the median, and went air-born.  The van landed on top of an SUV carrying a Kentucky family.  They were transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

Investigators said they found multiple beer cans inside and outside Butler's van.  Butler has been hospitalized since the crash.

According to his obituary, Butler passed away on Saturday.
