Prosecutors have responded to a request for a new trial or acquittal for former Knox County Judge Richard Baumgartner.
A jury convicted Baumgartner of six counts of misprision of a felony earlier this month, which is basically lying to cover up a crime.
Baumgartner filed an appeal two weeks later. He asked the judge to overrule the jury's verdicts and acquit him.
Attorneys for the government responded on Wednesday, saying Baumgartner's requests should be denied. They also say that Baumgartner and his defense team are only re-stating arguments they raised before and during the trial without making any new points.
Baumgartner is set to be sentenced in March.
