A Nashville family said police declared a family member dead, when in fact she was alive, but critically injured.
Nashville police said the 30-year-old mother of three was crossing the street when she was hit by a car.
Investigators sent out a press release stating she passed away. When relatives went to pick up her death certificate, they found out she was still alive, but in critical condition.
Her daughter Delisea Howse said her family is outraged by what police are calling a mistake.
"My mother has congestive heart failure, and then they told us she's gone," said Howse. "That's a hard blow."
Police said a volunteer chaplain had mistakenly claimed the woman had passed away. No charges have been filed against the 81-year-old driver who hit her.
