A Knoxville man is behind bars facing charges after a bullet tore through the roof of a stolen Camero while he was fighting with a stranger in the passenger seat.
The police say a gun discharged in the Camero around 6:45 p.m. while 29-year-old Kendrick Rodgers struggled with a man he had met earlier Tuesday evening at a fast food restaurant. The passenger had pulled the handgun attempting to rob Rodgers while Rodgers was giving him a ride. Rodgers told police they began to fight over the gun when a police officer drove by the Camero on Oglewood.
When the gun discharged, the passenger ran away from the car.
The Camero was a rental vehicle. In the Camero, police say they found a small amount of marijuana. Police found a handgun on the ground near the passenger side door.
Rodgers is facing theft charges, possession of marijuana, and driving on a suspended license. He is being held on $22,000 bond.
