People looking to donate things like clothes or furniture, or shop for gently used items, now have a new option.
Thursday, the Salvation Army opened a new thrift store in Oak Ridge, located at 350 N. Illinois Ave.
The organization says it will offer higher quality retail, plus more shopping floor space.
They say giving items to the thrift store goes beyond a simple donation.
"We also use the funds collected here to help individuals who need a hand up. We provide assistance in the form of food baskets and vouchers for an individual who can shop in a store for free," said Major Albert Villafuerte, the Knoxville Area Commander.
The Salvation Army says if this new location is successful, it will consider opening a second Oak Ridge location.
Across the country, nearly $30-million people get help from the Salvation Army each year.
