Sevier Heights Baptist Church took center stage for the "Living Christmas Tree" in Thompson-Boling Arena for its first two performances Saturday.

The production features a 240 voice choir, a 60 piece orchestra and a cast of more than 300 people.

The "Living Christmas Tree" began in 1989 and more than half-a-million people witnessed the larger than life program ever since.

Organizer Callie Holland said she hopes people come, who have never seen the production.

"I think the Living Christmas Tree has become a tradition for a lot of families, it's just something that they're used to doing. But this show, our goal was to bring in people that have never seen it before," said Holland. "Maybe they've never been a part of it. That's why we want them to find themselves in the story. That's why we want them to just come, sit down, and relax. I mean, it's free, what do you really have to lose?"

Performances will continue until Monday, Dec. 10.

Here's a list of performances at Thompson-Boling Arena:

  • Dec 9: 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
  • Dec 10: 7:00 p.m.

Tickets are available online.
