The Humane Society of the Tennessee Valley offered a special deal for pet adoption over the weekend.
During its open house weekend, the animal shelter gave people a discounted rate for pet adoption. Normally the standard pet adoption fee is $150. This weekend, the Humane Society dropped the rate to $125.
Humane Society of the Tennessee Valley spokesperson Beth Schultheis said the goal of this weekend was to celebrate the holidays, while finding some furry friends a forever home.
"We wanted to show off the things we've done in the time we've been here," said Schultheis. "It was kind of hurried last year. Also to show everyone what we have available for adoption this holiday season when people are looking for companionship."
The Humane Society said adoptions tend to increase around the holiday season. On Saturday the animal shelter said people adopted 14 animals.
