Investigators are trying to find the cause of a couple of house fires in South Knoxville.

The first fire broke out at 2628 Peachtree Street Wednesday morning. The Knoxville Fire Department responded around 2:40 a.m.

KFD Captain D.J. Corcoran said the home was unoccupied at the time but renovations were being done.

"Just about every room in the house was on fire and flames were shooting through the roof," Capt. Corcoran said.

Then, around 6:30 a.m. firefighters moved a block down to a house fire at 2604 Belvedere Ave. The home was also unoccupied.

The owner, Warren Maclin, said he was in between renters.

"Oh my gosh. It's just awful. It probably hasn't hit me good yet," Maclin said.

Capt. Corcoran said it's too soon to tell the cause of the fires but added, "It is sort of a red flag. Our arson investigators are looking into both incidents and nothing has been determined at this point."

Capt. Corcoran said it could be several days or even weeks until arson investigators determine the cause of the fires.
