An East Tennessee doctor has pleaded guilty to knowingly receiving medications at his practice that were not approved by the FDA.

William Kincaid made the plea in federal court in Greeneville on Tuesday. He ran a well-known cancer treatment center in Johnson City.

Investigators say Kincaid's practice, McLeod Cancer and Blood, received $2 million worth of cancer medications from a supplier in Switzerland that in not FDA approved.

Prosecutors say that can be dangerous to patients.

"When somebody circumvents that process by obtaining drugs outside that closed system, there is no assurance of what the patient received. We don't know, the physicians don't know what those patients received," said Assistant US Attorney Neil Smith.

Kincaid faces up to three years in prison and a $250,000 fine. He is out of jail on a $20,000 bond until his sentencing in June.

Kincaid's practice is now closed.
