A Knoxville man is going to prison after admitting he lied about his military service to receive benefits.

Charles Kaczmarczyk pleaded guilty to four of the eight counts against him in August: three counts of stealing public money and one count of social security fraud.

The indictment said Charles and his wife, Martha Ann, wrongfully collected nearly $458,000 from the government (VA and SSA) through falsified combat records.

Kaczmarczyk was sentenced to 30 months behind bars followed by 3 years supervised release.  He was also ordered to pay restitution of $457,986.60.

Those four charges could have added up to a maximum of 30 years in prison.

Martha Ann Kaczmarczyk, 62, pleaded guilty in September to charges of stealing public money.  Her sentencing is set for January.
