A man charged with a fourth DUI after crashing into an East Tennessee newspaper publisher made his first appearance in court Wednesday.
The accident happened back in early October. 42-year-old Nicholas Steffa was driving in Greenback when he crossed the center line and hit 31-year-old William Daniel Hall. Hall spent nearly two weeks in the intensive care unit.
THP says Steffa was drunk behind the wheel. He faces charges of fourth offense d-u-i and vehicular assault.
He asked for a court-appointed attorney in court Wednesday. He'll next be in court in February.
Hall is the publisher of Monroe County's Daily News Express. The newspaper had to shut down publication temporarily as he recovered. Hall still has not returned to work.
