Hundreds of fans waited in line, some as early as 6 p.m., for the 12:01 premier of the first installment in The Hobbit trilogy.

The movie is a prequel to the critically acclaimed and much beloved Lord Of the Rings series.

Fans at Regal Cinemas Pinnacle at Turkey Creek brought their enthusiasm and elf-ears Thursday evening as they awaited the show.

The theater was showing the movie on 15 screens, with showings as late (or early) as 3:45 a.m.

The theater is showing a 48 frame per minute version of the film in their IMAX theater.

The rest of the theaters will show the standard 24 frame per minute versions.

The film's director, Peter Jackson, posted in a Facebook note that the change will bring enhanced clarity and smoothness to viewers.
