Artist Arlissa Green sculpts a bird inside her Powell home.
These are some of the bird pins Green sent to Jesse Lewis' family.
This picture shows two bird pins. The student will wear one and his mother will wear the other Thursday, according to Green.
A Knoxville artist's work will comfort a family in Newtown, Connecticut, Thursday morning.
According to Honan Funeral Home's website, six year-old Jesse Lewis' visitation is set for 9 a.m. on Thursday. Family members will wear a memento made in East Tennessee. The student was killed last week at Sandy Hook Elementary.
"To create something for them that can bring the slightest amount of joy, that is what I was meant to do on this earth," said Arlissa Green of Arlissa Green Creations.
The sculptor lives in Powell.
She tells 10News she received an order from Jesse Lewis' aunt through her online shop on Etsy.
According to Green, Lewis' aunt said her nephew loved birds and the aunt ordered 32 bird pins for her family to wear to the student's funeral.
Green made and shipped the order in less than 24 hours. She received notification before 1 a.m. Tuesday and mailed the package by 7 p.m. the same day.
Friends said the local artist did not charge the family any money.
