A holiday tradition more than two decades in the making continued Wednesday night near downtown Knoxville.

Lost Sheep Ministry provided hundreds of meals to East Tennesseans in need underneath Interstate 40. Volunteers from nine different counties served the meals.

Lost Sheep Ministry Founder Maxine Raines said she started the holiday tradition to help those in need.

"Whatever it takes to get them off [their feet]," Raines said. "We're a rescue ministry and we just want to get them to a place where they can handle taking care of themselves."

Trey Gibson, a volunteer from Knoxville with Redemption Church said he was happy to help.

"Like the Good Samaritan in the bible, the way you show love is, you do," Gibson said.

Steven Greer and his family have attended the meals for seven years. He recently just found a home and said he was thankful for everything the Lost Sheep Ministry did to help him on the way.

"It's great, it's great, it's a blessing," Greer said.

Children who attended Wednesday's meal were also given stockings full of presents.
