Some law enforcement officers told us they were happy to spend time with kids Thursday, and for more than 100 young boys and girls in Grainger County, it felt like Christmas. They took part in the annual Shop with a Cop event.
The sheriff's department organized it for about 140 kids, nearly twice the number from last year.
The weather outside didn't cooperate, but inside the store kids got to take home whatever they liked.
"Economy's bad, a lot of parents are struggling, the kids don't fully understand that. We want them to know we're out there to support them, as a chaperone, as a community we love our children," said Sheriff Scott Layel.
Members of the Harlem Globetrotter Legends helped out with the shopping.
The sheriff hopes his department can help out even more children next year.
