Man shot while trying to purchase narcotics in West Knoxville

A man who was shot Wednesday night in West Knoxville has been identified by KPD as 29-year-old Michael Fife of Maryville.

Officials say Fife admitted he was meeting a suspect to purchase illegal narcotics when the suspect attempted to rob him at gunpoint.

Fife says he grabbed the gun, but a suspect regained control of the handgun and shot him. The bullet grazed Fife's thigh.

The shooting occurred in the suspect's vehicle. He then dropped Fife off near Papermill Road.

An investigation is ongoing.

Knoxville Police are investigating a shooting in West Knoxville.

According to a release, officers responded to 6230 Papermill, Wednesday night, to meet a victim who said he was shot. The victim says it happened somewhere between West Town Mall and Papermill Drive.

He was transported to UT Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The investigation is ongoing and officials have not released the victim's name.
