A contract worker who experienced a high voltage electric shock on a KUB construction site died on Monday, according to Knoxville Police.

According to KUB, the employee of W&O Construction Company, Inc., was working at KUB's Kuwahee Wastewater Treatment Plant on Neyland Drive when the accident happened shortly after noon.

The Knoxville Fire Department responded to the accident, along with Rural/Metro.  KFD says it appears the workers were trying to lift a piece of metal with a crane when something came into contact with power lines.  Investigators weren't sure exactly what may have hit the power lines.

The worker was pronounced dead at UT Medical Center, according to Knoxville Police Lt. Robert Hembree.

In a statement, KUB said, "KUB employees send their thoughts and prayers to the W & O employee and his
family."

The man's name was not released pending notification of relatives.

The Tennessee Occupational Health and Safety Administration will investigate the incident.
