More than 60,000 people were in Gatlinburg Monday preparing to bring in the new year.
Gatlinburg held its 25th annual New Year's Eve ball drop and fireworks show near the intersection of Parkway and Historic Nature Trail next to the base of the Space Needle.
Attendees from as far away as Great Britain were shopping and listening to live music as midnight approached.
Stacey Renzelman of Wears Valley said she enjoys coming to the ball drop every year with her family.
"It's beautiful, we love it here, and it's so exciting," Renzelman said.
Once the ball drop occurs, fireworks shot from the 342-foot space needle. The fireworks show is choreographed by Pyro Shows of LaFollette.
Randall Hamlett came from Kentucky to countdown to the new year with his wife. He said he was excited to see the fireworks as well.
"Well, just heard it's a lot of people and a good show," he said.
