A Georgia developer plans to purchase the old Baptist Hospital building near downtown Knoxville, but aren't ready to discuss their plans for the space.
The building has been vacant since 2008, after a merger between Baptist and St. Mary's formed Mercy Health Partners. The company is now Tennova. The huge, vacant building sits on the south side of the Tennessee River from downtown Knoxville.
According to Rhodes Seeger with Blanchard and Calhoun Commercial Development in Augusta Georgia, the company has signed a contract to purchase the building. They are currently in the planning stages and working on a final plan.
Blanchard and Calhoun are commercial developers who do projects throughout the southeast. They have done projects in Knoxville before, including a couple of Kroger shopping centers in Farragut and at Cedar Bluff.
