The Greene County Sheriff's Department is investigating a hefty theft after someone stole thousands of dollars worth of cattle from a local farm.

Kyle Wills says thieves took seven cows and three calves from his farm on Tuesday night. He says he discovered they were missing after a neighbor called and said his cows were on the loose.

Wills says he believes the cows got out after someone cut a hole in his barbed wire fence. He says those cows are the cream of the crop, and are valued at more than $15,000.

"The farm is a herd of registered angus cattle that I'm very proud of. It's taken several years to build them up," he said.

Wills is now contacting sheriff's departments in surrounding counties and auction sites, and warning other farmers in the area.

Greene County deputies say the cows do have ID tags.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Greene County Sheriff's Department at (423) 798-1800.
