The waters along the Little River were rushing and rapid Tuesday afternoon, after a deluge added inches of water in local rain gauges.
The mountain communities of Walland and Townsend were the hardest hit in the county, with at least a dozen roads closed from high waters.
According to the Townsend Fire Department Tuesday afternoon, 18 homes along the Dark Island community are currently cut off from a nearby road, because of flooding. Those residents are safe, according to chief Don Stallions. Another four homes nearby were also isolated from the waters.
A Red Cross shelter has been set up to help anyone displaced from the storm at the
Tuckaleechee United Methodist Church, 7322 Old Tuckaleechee Rd., for
those living near the Little River who have been evacuated.
