Snow is falling hard in parts of East Tennessee, including much of Knox County.
TDOT and local agencies are out salting the main roads across the area, though secondary and back roads could be getting slick.
The evening commute was really rough in Knox County, with traffic bumper to bumper on interstates and main roads. The main roads weren't that slick, but some vehicles had a tough time getting traction. When they stopped, they backed traffic up behind them.
The roads are covered in slush and getting icy in some areas. There are no serious interstate accidents reported, but traffic is moving slowly in many parts of East Tennessee, as people try to get home. In some areas, traffic is at a standstill.
The Knoxville Police Department has activated Level I of their Severe Weather Plan. Officers are moving into vehicles with snow tires, and will be working in teams of two.
They can only respond to accidents with injury at this time. If you are in an accident that involves property damage only, you should exchange information with each other and contact your insurance company.
KAT buses are operating on snow routes as of Thursday evening.
