TDOT's Transportation Management Center may be the safest place to be on snowy nights, but workers there are keeping a very close eye on area interstates.
With 75 cameras monitoring 45 miles of interstate, employees have a birds eye view of the traffic mess Thursday's snow is causing in Knox County. Traffic was bumper to bumper on I-40E and I-75N during rush hour, as the snow continued to fall on already slush-covered roads.
Workers can see traffic problems as they happen, and dispatch officers and HELP trucks to those areas if needed.
TDOT workers are out in force, salting interstates and major highways all across East Tennessee.
