Dozens of people marched through downtown Dandridge to honor Martin Luther King, Jr. and his legacy Monday.

Frances Banner, 80, started this parade 16 years ago. When the march began, she said the city didn't recognize the holiday. At that time, the schools and city hall stayed open on MLK Day.

After a couple years of marching, Banner said the city slowly realized the significance of the holiday. She said it's important to keep up the tradition.

"The dream has brought a change," said Banner. "But people will have to keep marching in Dandridge, the young people will because it could go back to what it once was, I'm afraid."

The crowd has grown larger as well over the past years. Banner said it started with a few people, but now dozens participate.
