With Tuesday's colder weather, Ober Gatlinburg expects to make more snow and be able to open more slopes.

The colder weather is good news for Ober Gatlinburg.

The resort had a great turn-out this weekend thanks to last week's snow and Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

Ober Gatlinburg Winter Sports Director John Cossaboom said Monday was busier than normal with many people taking winter vacations due to the extended weekend.

"We had a free weekend stay up here," explained Brenna Swiggum of Knoxville.

She went on to say, "We decided to use it during the colder time of the year where we could see Gatlinburg and the Smoky Mountains with some snow on it and we were afraid we would miss the snow because it started melting really quickly."

Cossaboom said last week's snow helped the turn-out as well.

"I've always called that the backyard syndrome and that is, if it hasn't snowed in my backyard, how could they possibly be open for skiing or snowboarding?" Cossaboom said.

With Tuesday's colder weather, Ober Gatlinburg expects to make more snow and be able to open more slopes.
