With the threat of an ice storm heading towards Knoxville and surrounding areas early Friday morning, emergency crews are getting prepared.
Thursday morning was the second meeting of Knoxville emergency services officials at the Emergency Operations Center, at the Knox County 911 Center. If activated, representatives from all of those services would be stationed at the center through the duration of the storm.
The National Weather Service provided a weather update for the crews. They still expect freezing rain to start falling in the Knoxville area around 7:00 am.
City and county emergency crews will be ready be 5:00 am for whatever they need to do to keep the public safe in the event of an ice storm. Extra crews in vehicles with four-wheel drives and chains will be ready to hit the roads.
Emergency officials caution people to stay at home and off the roads if possible.
