Leaders in Jefferson County are a step closer to funding a plan that they hope will bring hundreds of new jobs to their community.
The county's budget committee voted to recommend new funding related to a proposed megasite. If the site is certified, it could attract a major company such as an automaker, which would create hundreds, even thousands of jobs.
If the funding is approved by commissioners, it would help pay for work that would take place at the site while the county is applying for certifications.
Some landowners have expressed concerns about the project, and it is still in the very early stages.
The full commission is deciding whether to call a special meeting in the coming weeks to vote on the funding.
