The historic Knoxville High School will be surplussed by Knox County in July 2013. We got the first look at what may lay ahead for the downtown staple on Tuesday.

The Community Design Center held a meeting Tuesday evening to ask the public what it would like the future of the building to be. Ideas ranged from a library to residences, but a common theme was the desire to try and preserve its historical significance.

The Community Design Center will take the suggestions and will ultimately give a report to the Board of Education highlighting possible uses.

"We believe in good design; we believe in positive community impact, not say that there is a bad development, but saying we don't believe it's the best development for the community. So we just want to facilitate the process and help the public convey what they would like to see," said David Watson with the Community Design Center.

That report should be complete some time this spring.
