I started at WBIR-TV in December 2012 after spending most of my life in the "Land of 10,000 Lakes."

I was born and raised in Alexandria, Minnesota. After studying journalism at DePaul University in Chicago, I landed my first job in television back in my home state at KTTC NewsCenter.

In Rochester, I shot, wrote, edited stories and anchored the 9 o'clock news on Friday nights for our sister station, FOX 47. While at KTTC, I had the chance to interview the King and Queen of Norway, cover Vice President Joe Biden's campaign visit, and report on stories involving the world-famous Mayo Clinic.

In 2011, the Minnesota Associated Press recognized my reporting with a First Place award for a special series on Asian carp and an Honorable Mention for an investigative piece on prostitution and sex trafficking in Rochester which led to the city's largest undercover prostitution sting in years. My report on the dangers of radon in Minnesota and Iowa resulted in a Regional Emmy nomination.

At DePaul University I had the opportunity to work with some amazing journalists, including NBC 5 Political Editor Carol Marin, who started her career at WBIR! My senior year I was named College of Communication's Journalism Student of the Year.

I come home every night to my cats, Bunny Pancake and Jazz Mango (yes, those are their names). I'm excited to explore Knoxville and the surrounding areas. I love a great story and would love to hear yours! You can contact me at hwigdahl@wbir.com.
