A traffic collision led to another four vehicle crash on I-40 E. near West Hills exit Friday at approximately 6:37 p.m.
A wheel came off of one vehicle, grounding it to stop in the middle of the interstate. Its wheel rolled into the side of another car as well.
Knoxville Police said as officers were traveling to the accident, another vehicle braked to avoid striking the stalled car. A driver following too closely struck that car in the rear. This accident led to two other vehicles crashing into one another. A total of four vehicles were involved in the second accident.
Knoxville Firefighters had to pull two people from their vehicles. Rescue crews transported a total of three people to UT Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
Officials want to remind drivers to keep their vehicles in working order before heading onto the roadways.
