A Union County man is in stable condition at UT Medical Center following an officer-involved shooting in Maynardville this weekend.
According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, Union County 911 received an call about a domestic incident at 169 Summerset Way during the overnight hours between Saturday and Sunday.
When a Maynardville Police officer arrived at the home, an armed suspect ran out of the house. Police said Mark Smith fired shots at the officer. The officer also fired a shot, hitting Smith in the shoulder.
Smith was taken to UT Medical Center where he remains in stable condition.
TBI is now investigating the shooting. According the Maynardville Police Department, the officer involved in the shooting was not injured and has been placed on administrative leave with pay, pending TBI's investigation.
The officer's identity has not yet been released.
Once TBI completes its investigation, it will turn the case file over to the District Attorney for review.
