Folks in Madisonville got to hear from an East Tennessee soldier who was wounded in Afghanistan.

Last February, Army Master Sergeant Michael Trost was shot multiple times while helping to build a school in southeast Afghanistan.

Monday he shared his experience with a recovery group at Outreach Across America in Madisonville. The group meets each Monday night to help people recover from various types of addiction.

Master Sergeant Trost just hopes his experience can inspire people to make a change in their lives.

"There were some days when I was just like, 'forget it, I don't want to do this anymore,' and my wife would go 'get your shoes on, let's go down to physical therapy,' and I would have to learn to walk all over again and it was painful; it was difficult, it was hard. But you have two choices: either you do it and get better or you don't and get worse," he said.

Master Sergeant Trost said the support he and his wife have received from East Tennesseans has been overwhelming.
