A TDOT worker has resigned, after investigators say he drove drunk in a state vehicle and caused an accident.

Oak Ridge Police responded to a crash on Oak Ridge Turnpike last Friday.   56-year-old William Halbert was driving a TDOT pick-up truck.

The officer reported Halbert smelled like alcohol, had bloodshot eyes,  and slurred speech.  He's now facing a DUI charge.

TDOT confirmed Halbert has resigned, effective Thursday.

TDOT says they had already started the disciplinary process, but now won't have to take further action.

Halbert had been with TDOT since 1997, and worked as a transportation tech in the Oak Ridge office.
