All the northbound lanes of Alcoa Hwy. are expected to be open by Friday, according to a report from TDOT.
In an update from TDOT Spokesman Mark Nagi Friday morning, the second northbound lane is on schedule to reopen to traffic in the afternoon or evening.
T-DOT'S Geotechnical Engineers must inspect the rock wall. If they deem it safe, then the lane will re-open.
The contractor, Kay and Kay Contracting, LLC, has until February 15th to fully complete the project. They were awarded the bid in late January for $308,040.
Lanes were closed in mid-January after a rock slide caused unstable conditions around the roadway. Since then TDOT crews have been working to clear debris and secure the rock wall lining that section of the highway, near the Marine Corps center.
