Patients moved into the new state of the art hospital in Roane County Sunday.

The new $76 million dollar facility is in Midtown, which is just a few miles south from the old Roane Medical Center in Harriman.

10News got a sneak peak at the new hospital last week.  The new facility contains 54 beds, 15 emergency suits and more space for doctors, nurses and patients.  Each patient room also has sofas that turn into sleeper beds for loved ones.

Roane County residents got their first chance to see a new $76 million, state of the art hospital being built in their community Sunday.

The new 64-acre Roane Medical Center will open next Sunday in Midtown. It is located just a few miles south from the old Roane Medical Center in Harriman.

Construction workers broke ground on the new facility May 2011.

"I'm thrilled for the employees and also our citizens here," said Roane County Executive Ron Woody.

More than 350 people attended Covenant Health's open house for the hospital Sunday to see all of its new features. The facility has 54 beds, 15 emergency suites, and more space for doctors and nurses to tend to their patients.

"One of the most exciting features that we have is an electronic medical record [system] that we will do bedside computerized charting in our patients' rooms so that the information is at the fingertips of the nurses and physicians," said Roane Medical Center President Gaye Jolly.

Tony Spezia, president of Covenant Health, said the project has been a joy to work on as well.

"There is no more rewarding part to my role and to the other leaders of covenant health than to be able to do something like this," Spezia said.

One Roane County resident excited for the new hospital is Ferrell Winfree. However, she said Sunday's moment was also bittersweet too.

Winfree was the first woman to be born in the old Roane Medical Center.

"But, this is gorgeous," she said. "It's wonderful and the facilities are going to be so much better."
