Blount County is looking to solidify its security at two large high schools.
Officials with the Blount County Sheriff's Department say they will ask the county for two additional school resource officers. Right now, they have one officer in each of the 21 schools, but because there are so many students at the area's two high schools, officials say they could use better protection.
"It's just a great concept to have those two SROs on high schools. William Blount High School has a little over 1,700 kids and Heritage High School is just a little shy of 1,600 kids, so with that many kids concentrated in the particular area it's just a good thing to have those two SROs," said Captain Jeff Clark.
Captain Clark says they do not have an estimated cost yet. He says they'll have to add the proposal to the budget and ask the county commission.
