Knox County's superintendent says he's concerned about the advancement of the so-called 'guns in parking lots' bill.

It would allow handgun carry permit holders in Tennessee to leave their weapons in their cars anywhere they park, including outside businesses and schools.

Superintendent Dr. Jim McIntyre says he doesn't think it's a good idea for guns to be anywhere on a school campus.

"We'll see where, how, the process plays out and obviously we will comply with whatever the law the legislature passes in its wisdom, but this is one where we would've liked to have seen an exemption carved out for schools," said McIntyre.

The Senate passed the bill on Monday. It advanced to the full House Judiciary Committee Wednesday after just a six-minute hearing.
