A Rockford man is accused of assaulting his girlfriend then attacking a deputy.
28-year-old David Simon, Jr. is charged with domestic violence with aggravated assault, and violation of an order of protection.
The incident happened early Saturday morning.
Simon's girlfriend told deputies that he assaulted her and tried to strangle her in front of her five-year-old son.
The woman and boy left the home and sought help after Simon fell asleep.
Deputies found Simon at the home and took him into custody.
When they arrived at the jail, court documents say Simon became angry and fought with the deputy.
